HHS Issues Forums

"Building Bridges Across the Department"

Background

On February 5 -7, 1996 the regional and central office leadership of the Department of Health & Human Services convened in Washington for a working conference called "Building Bridges to the Future". The conference focused on strengthening working relationships between the Central and Regional offices, and across division lines to enable the Department to function more effectively as a whole; to build successful external partnerships, and to improve service to our customers.

Collaboration & Education

Two of the Bridges goals stated the need to significantly improve access to key information and communication across HHS and to create processes to educate each other about what we do -- building on the the information exchange begun at the conference. The issues forums were developed in order to improve communication and collaboration and educate each other about current activities around key issues. Regional and central office locations were selected to allow a broad spectrum of HHS staff to participate in these issues forums.

The Issues Forum Web site will provide follow-up material from each session, including highlights of the presentations; a summary of question and answers.
