Data Council Work Plan

Agenda Item 3.

Serve as HHS focal point and liaison for the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics

Objective 1: Recommend appropriate foci for the NCVHS over time and propose implementation of appropriate NCVHS findings and recommendations.

The Council would carry out the following activities:

  1. Set up an ad hoc working group to:
    1. develop criteria for and screen the nominations for membership on the NCVHS,
    2. make recommendations on nominations to the full Council, and
    3. prepare the nomination package for the Secretary.
  2. Have new members in place by the June 1996 meeting of the NCVHS.
  3. Set up a Standing Working Group on departmental liaison to the NCVHS chaired by the HHS Data Council Executive Secretary. On behalf of the Data Council, the working group would:
    1. recommend priorities for initial and continuing agenda items for the newly rechartered NCVHS,
    2. arrange for staffing support for the subcommittees of the NCVHS,
    3. determine areas in which the Department would like advice and written reports from the NCVHS,
    4. monitor the work of the NCVHS, and
    5. make recommendations regarding future NCVHS membership.
  4. The HHS Data Council as a whole would serve as the focal point for:
    1. receiving NCVHS recommendations,
    2. integrating NCVHS input with other inputs, and
    3. making appropriate proposals to the Secretary.
