  • Workers who assessed their health as “excellent” or “very good” were more likely than the average to have ESI in 1996.

  • Workers with poor to good health were less likely than average to have employer coverage. Small sample sizes may account for some of this. Fewer than a million workers indicated that they were in poor health and only about four and a half million indicated that they were in fair health.
